So I sold a set of 4 bills for $2700 about a week ago.
He said he would pay me beofre the 6th, and I agreed.

But today, he wanted to cancel the buy and compensate me with $300 so I could pay the ebay fees. I'm fine with that since I wanted to have them graded all along.
I said he'd rather cancel the buy through ebay and leave it at that, so no need to compensate me for anything.

But he refused and tonight, he compensated me the $300 he promised.

But have I acted correctly in this matter? I bet ppl will start to wonder why I put the same bills up for auction again, even though there is a history of me selling them?

Should I contact ebay and let them handle it, however they would handle it?

Seller is from Russia, 100% good, 300 rating.

How would you act? since I already have the money and he's the only one who made a loss of the deal...

thanks

Totally weird. Not sure on the angle there... Unless he simply felt bad for wasting your time. But you would think he would have gone through the cancel process since you offered. I dont get it either.

Edit: Did he gift you the money? Just make sure you are covered that he doesn't come back and say you didnt deliver goods down the road. That would be my worry... Honestly Id figure out a way to convice him to cancel the right way and refund the money.

the transaction window shows it's ready to ship, but it's not through any ebay system, so I guess he made a payment paying for "goods or services"

But it's not traceable to that specific auction.

and if he starts ing about it, all the conversation is through the ebay mail system, so it shouldn't be that hard to fight...

It just confuses me that he didn't take the easy way out and cancelled the purchase

and one more thing, have I broken any ebay policies doing this?

It will be a pain though to explain to potential buyers why I still have the bills in my possession

The only thing I can think of is that he doesn't want to lose his ebay account and is afraid that may happen by backing out of the auction *shrug* It's odd behaviour for sure.

Thats one of the weirdest stories I've ever heard. It could be somebody doing what they think is the right thing, but my initial reaction is that its part of a scam. You should definitely send the ebay cancel request and see how he responds to it. If he denies it open up a non payment case, refund his money and be done with it. I cant help but think he might be trying some end around to file a claim through paypal

Definitely save all the emails.

I did email ebay and will see what they do. Figured it would be good if they had a record of me communication with them regarding the issue as well. also asked them to remove the item as being sold.

The payment he sent isn't in any way tracable to the ebay item, so it's hard to see how he's going to use this in a scam

All I see is a good place to use the term "more money than brains." This is a guy used to throwing money at a problem to make it go away. Let him pitch.
