I have messaged this seller several times trying to purchase the item for sale :- 171120066305I believe it is the sellers intention to take cash from the buyer without handing over any items. Yes I know this is not the place to post this but could not find another place. I offered to buy the item for £2300 cash and offered to have a friend of mine collect from sellers address. He refused to give details and wanted to meet alone at a stretch of deserted garages. I called ebay and they said there is nothing they could do unless the seller was trying to sell outside of ebay. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***You will never soar like an eagle if you hang around with turkeys.....

If you really want the necklace I'd email the seller and tell him you're not comfortable meeting a stranger alone in a deserted place while you have a pocket full of cash.
If he's not willing to compromise and meet in a crowded public place or somewhere that would insure both of your safety then I'd pass, thinking something's fishy here. Does he really think anybody's that stupid to go traipsing around unknown areas with that much cash?

To be honest I can go without the chain, I buy loads anyway, its just I hate the thought of some poor guy walking into what could be a nasty trap. I tried talking to ebay and they didnt seem to care so posted here in the hope that some of the 'veteran' posters would know how to properly report this to the correct place.

No, he wouldn't take payment through paypal, he wanted cash on collection but said he would send an invoice for my protection. I wouldn't give him a dime but am pretty worried that someone will take a fall here that's why I posted.

Maybe he'd be willing to meet at a police station? ;)

I don't know why the moderators here would want to get involved in a e-bay transaction that is not a transaction and doesn't involve any members.
I would hope that anyone with the means to buy this jewelry would have the good sense to be wary as you have been.

I've talked about all kinds of topics here. I trust most members here more than lots of my friends. They deal with PMs and can usually spot someone trying to take the money and run. ebay Canada no longer accepts cash as valid payment method. I thought ebay.uk would be the same. Best way to make sure nobody follows the footsteps you were almost going to make is to leave feedback on the seller. A neutral one describing the seller's request will be enough to turn away most buyers.

There's enough "shady" here to offer an effective 100% chance of rain in the weather forecast. Unfortunately, there is not a whole lot you can do aside what you've done. ebay.uk's rules allow cash payment upon collection - not unreasonable in my opinion - and beyond that you're stuck with just allowing life to take it's course, trusting in the instincts of those who see this seller's offerings. You and I both know what's going on, but all we can do is watch. Of course, were I running ebay, your call would have elicited a question-and-answer session between ebay and the seller. But I don't run ebay.
