Found this 72 JFK roll searching boxes of halfs yesterday.

Looks like it was the beginning of a clipped planchet

Genuine! Tapered rim into clip and reverse flow lines on the letter A and on the stars both support its being a genuine clip. If you look at the edge there should be "layer inversion" also.
