My brother, who is a long time collector, calls me very excited that he had found his first printing error in the wild on a $5.00 bill. He says he has found a bill missing the entire holographic strip, as it said "its gotta be worth hundred's, its an outstanding bill", and he wants me to post it on ebay.

So I arrange to meet him half way between our homes (about 50 KM drive for each of us) to get this bill from him at a Timmies half way.

Well you be the judge.

I must say at least I did get a Large Double double out the trip...

Yes the strip is missing, but so is the printing that was on top of it, it looked like it had been washed several times, and at best was in good condition.

I had read before that people were making fake $50 bills (or higher denominations), and removing the strips from $5 bills to paste onto the $50 bills, to make them appear more authentic. I wonder if this is a victim of that.

Never heard of that happening, but the way thieves roll it is probally very true. If the strip is removed from a $5.00 then the colouring from the 5 would also be transfered. the holgraphic strip is added before the bill is printed so it is underneath the printed part of the note, one of the security features.

This is not an error, unfortunately.

The holographic stripe can be peeled off of the notes (I have never tried, but I'm sure it would take a while to do).

I was very sure it was not an error the second I saw the bill. Looked like it had been washed several times, and the hologram peeled off. I gave him 5 for the bill, and promised to sell it. (Make that spend it)

You can get the strip off with relative ease...

This certainly looks like a victim...

Sell it on the bay as $5 missing the security strip... don't mention error and your description is valid... see if there are any takers!

I still have a stack or two of 5's before they came out with the security strip... it's even hard to SPEND those... as people think those are counterfiets...
