Would one be able to clearly determine if a 76 year old cent from circulation is proof? I first took notice of the different hue (darker than most old cents) but haven't determined what it should look like. Obviously a coin with 9000 mintage would be awesome to have found!

Even with a picture it might be hard to tell but at least we'll have a starting point.

That would be an extremely rare find as only 9320 were minted. All of these were brilliant to it would have obvious surfaces. You'll have to show us some pictures. Chances are it's just a normal business strike that has been polished.

Was it found roll hunting? Great find if so!

Yes- it was roll hunting. I give it low probability but would love everyone's expertise. If only I could figure out how to get the pic up. Keeps saying the size is too big and the optimizer isn't helping!

BadThad- it doesn't have a brilliant surface. It just is different than the shoe leather tan other coppers are of that age range. That's why I am skeptical. My original question was to figure out if there were other characteristics to look for.
