I picked up a Stack or Canadian large cents this past week.
I didn't look at them when I bought them, when I got home I saw this 1861. It has Nova Scotia and 1861 on the reverse.

I looked on the coins and Canada site and did not see it listed. Is it a token?

No this is a regular issue from Nova Scotia, and is indeed a 1 cent coin. Typically called pre-decimal coinage. They were issued in 1861 1/2 an 1 cent plus in 1864 the 1 cent. There are two varieties from this one LB and SB. Not sure which variety this one is. In this condition they are worth between $7.50 and $15.00

Also, it is not in the regular catalogue of Cdn coins, it is included in the Colonial Tokens catalogue (just to make thing difficult). The Canadian Coin News usually has them listed in their trend prices.

Not a token.A pre-confederation decimal coin issued by the colonial Province of Nova Scotia. These are listed in the regular numismatic edition of Charlton's,not in the catalogue of Colonial Tokens.
There are Large Bud and Small Bud varieties, both of which have similar values.Your coin is Large Bud variety.

For about thirty seconds I wondered how you could come up with this gem of misinformation.
Then I checked the Table Of Contents in Charlton's. Shame on the editors, this error has been there for years.

There was also a one cent issued in 1862 (a tough date, and by far the most valuable in the series) and a Half Cent in 1864 as well.

Apparently, the P.E.I. cents circulated alongside large cents of the unified Canadian government for years (until 1920, when all large cents were pulled). Not sure if it's the same story with the NS and NB cents.
