What is illegal about what I am doing? I have review the ebay policy and I still don't see anything also reviewed Canadian laws about coins again nothing about what I am doing.

If its anything like US law I would guess nothing. It could have just been someone didnt approve of that and pulled it. ebay seems to have moved more to the pull things if theres a question when reported and sort it out later mode.

Youre probably going to have to spend some time on the phone with them if you want to be able to sell those.

Great info but that wouldn't apply to me because I am not trying to pass it of as nothing but my own. Because of this law I clearly stated in my description

The coin was plated in 24K gold/Silver by a third party not the mint

And that goes back to the issue in other threads regarding counterfeit Canadian coins here: the person purchasing it from you doesn't have to put that disclaimer when they go to sell it. They could try to say it was from the mint. Counterfeit coins on ebay is a big subject and I guess they will try to play things safe.

I see what you are saying but again that would be that "person(s)" problem whom tried to pass it as a replica or whatever they decide to do that wouldn't reflect on me. My listing was honest and clear

Well let me play devil's advocate here.... would you still say that if it was a flat out counterfeit? As long as you admit its a counterfeit what the next guy does isn't your problem?

Therein lies the rub, if you sell something illegal (not saying yours are), you most certainly can.

But ebay can, and is, holding sellers of replicas/counterfeits responsible for the potential actions of future owners. And it looks like you've been caught up in all that.

I cannot see anything wrong with this particular case- I've seen plated coins circulating when looking through rolls... The listing was as about as clear as it could have been... if this is "illegal" shouldn't ebay then pull all the jewelry pieces and anything else that has been "altered"? IMO someone was a bit overzealous, and completely ignored the spirit of the law...

About time to

My question to the OP is;
Why on earth do you want to plate perfectly good coins in the first place

In Canada, things are different because, like here in Australia, you're a monarchy; by ancient tradition the coinage is technically Crown property. Section 11(1) of the Canadian Currency Act currently reads:

Quote:
11. (1) No person shall, except in accordance with a licence granted by the Minister, melt down, break up or use otherwise than as currency any coin that is current and legal tender in Canada.

Exactly and mentions nothing about being illegal to plate them unless of course you are trying to pass them off as a existing coin that is gold/silver. Which I never did clearly stated in the description.

I have read this policy 100 times do you see anything in here about Canadian coins not being allowed to be plated or any coin for that matter? The only statement about plating I see is on bullion. Correct me if I'm wrong

I am really at a loss here.

Look at all the other auctions for gold plated cents.

Sad really...
