Randomly stopped into a different pawn shop here in town I had never been in before. They had a very small selection of Morgan and Peace dollars sitting in a bowl in the side of one of the cases. I asked if I could look at them closer so I went through them all and one in particular caught my attention. It was a 1878-CC! I asked the price on their dollars and the lady said $40.00 firm. I stole this at $40.00.

Pawn shops notoriously pay about half the melt value. She paid about ten for it and figured it was a home run at 40. Sweet.

Very nice pick-up.

As a second thought you might want to investigate whether or not it qualifies as an even more valuable VAM.

Please keep this thread notified of your findings.

If EVER there were a better example of the CCF motto:
"Education is the key to collector success"
I would love to hear about it.

I have it as VAM-27, I think. Not a rarity, but at $40, who cares?

Great find - Wow!

I always look through odd piles of Morgan dollars if I see any in shops here in the UK, but never yet found a CC one!

It doesn't appear to be the lines in wing or doubled leaves vams, but still a fantastic buy at $40.

Thanks everyone and thanks for the VAM identification, Dave. Too bad it wasn't a rare VAM, but hey, it's still a CC!

I never look when I'm at a flea market since the coins are always overpriced. Guess I'll have to rethink that.

Definitely! I don't usually bother with pawn shops too often, but I just thought I'd give this one a try. All the silver dollars were way overpriced at $40 here, but even one good date can always make that marked-up price worth it.
