I keep hearing of people getting coins out of the coin star machine. How do you do that?
What have you found from it?

I think the only way to get a coin out of a Coinstar is to check the reject bin.

When you are in a store where there is a Coinstar just walk by and look in the reject bin. Also many people when dumping there roll finds will find things in the reject bin or on the counter that were either left by people. I have found several foreign coins including a 1 Euro Da Vinci coin and a 500 Japanese Yen worth $5 face value. I have found 2 silver roosevelts, coppper Canadians and a Wheat penny in reject bins or on the counter as well. I was surprised when I found the two silver Roosies in the reject bin, one at a bank coin machine and the other sitting in a Coinstar reject bin.

I may be from Canada but I go down to the states every month or so and check the coin star machine. There is no doubt that I have checked it more than 10 times and for some reason have never found a single coin ever.

i always take my "rejects". Usually they are foreign coins (often Japanese) that I picked up overseas and they got mixed in with my change. Found a Philippines coin once, but never went to Philippines. Looked like a quarter but probably has less value. Maybe someone tried to pass it off as a quarter and I got it in change at some point.

More interesting and probably more productive, are the trays inside , which catch debris from the coins. If your lucky enough to catch them when they're opened for maintenace, you'll see an assortment of ring parts, charms, lockets, chains and a lintfarm.

Also check under and around the machine. Sometimes folks drop coins and don't pick them up (or miss them).
