I see waxing as a preventive measure best used on base metal coins to help prevent bronze disease. I really don't see a need to do it on silver coins.

I wondered if it might prevent silver wash from coming off, I have a few with some silvering remaining.

If the silvering is patchy, that means there is some copper alloy showing as well.
Renwax is used with ancient bronze coins sometimes, but I think a clear pure wax would be better if used in this case. Perhaps a thin smear with Vaseline might be OK, but you would not want any acidic natural skin oil mixed up with it.

That's the idea, but I couldn't think of another way to say so, with the association the gloves have with Vaseline and it's many other and various uses!

Ah, well, life's like that.

Ive Renwaxed most of my coins because they're UK dug and arent as stable as the desert found coins. Silvered coins do need a coating or the silver will oxidise away (I clean my coins under the assumption that they will be surviving another 2000 years). I might get lacquer soon for a more physically protective coat for some of the dissolving coins.

A trip to two different shops for these items might be a good idea

It took me a long time to except waxing. Sometimes it is needed when you have pesky recurring Bronze disease, or a super nice bronze that needs stay that way. I would Ren-Wax. I would not do the Brazilian though.
