Hey guys, I've been viewing this site for many weeks lately & have really enjoyed it. This is my first post her. I found this nickel while searching through a box of nickels recently. Can someone tell me what kind of error this is & a ballpark value? Thanks!

I guess I should point out that the error is on the obverse. The end of Liberty through the date (2002)and "we trust" has been stamped very lightly.

Loco ... pleased that you have left the world of lurkers to join us at this best of all coin forums.

Your coin (2002-D Jefferson) exhibits a relatively common error ... it has been struck through what we call 'grease' ... in reality it is impossible to identify the exact substance that caused the obverse strike weakness.

Grease filled strike coins are very common ... value alas of your coin is the joy in finding it.

They guys have it correct. Struck through error. (grease) On these the move missing the more desire able. On yours it is pretty common, but your first. 80% and more are more desire able.

It may not be very valuable but it's a keeper all the same. Keep searching, you never know what you might find.
