I wasn't sure where to put this, but you'll see why I put it here as you read on:
So my
Washington quarter set is nearly complete. I am only missing the 1932-D and 1932-S.
When I go to my local TD Bank here on Long Island, and I return my coins from roll hunting, the silver from previous people gets rejected, and comes out the slot at the bottom of the machine. This is how I got my first silver quarter. I also get many silver dimes. Usually about $1-2 face per week between quarters and dimes.
Before I go to the bank, I tell my kids that I need ,"little hands." They know that this means I need one of them to reach up into the reject bin, and slide the rejects out. The tube is not on an angle, so the rejected coins sometimes just sit in the tube until those little hands get them out.
Once I got to about a dozen quarters, I decided that it would be a good idea to see how far I could get. Well that didn't last long. Along with the occasional 40's and 50's quarter, they were mostly 1964, obviously.
So once I saved up enough duplicates of quarters, and silver dimes, I'd take them to my local coin shop and swap them out for other quarters from his junk silver bin. Each week, on average, I'd acquire 2 new quarters for my dansco, only using the money I got from selling my other silver.
I even sold silver to buy the Dansco.
Fast forward to today, I traded a member one of my doubles for a 1952-S, that I was missing.
So now, I have a complete Dansco, with the exception of the two keys mentioned earlier.
Just thought I'd share my story.
Thanks for reading.
