Im in on this one for sure...The coin looks stunning and this release is generating a lot of interest...I would say dont wait too long on a 250 mintage! one has already sold on ebay for 3750 USD thereabouts ......This coin is no more pricey than a certified double eagle and will most definitely climb in realized prices after it is sold out.....which could be very very soon..The silver sets are just hitting the market now and the Tardis set has proven to be quite a hit..This is a much better release than the medal UK set of a few years ago..the Queens cameo makes a big difference in credibility and value of a coin and I'm looking fwd to holding this coin in my hands..Even if gold drops further it wont make a difference with this type of coin....

Nice job Cass!
I like the low mintage myself and I like that it celebrates a long time running series, not a flash in the pan.

still waiting for Dr Who gold to arrive.....when I first saw this coin advertised at Perth Mint I thought ...no way...its way too expensive considering the price of gold these days but that low mintage of 250 enticed me into this coin....Im surprised some high roller doesn't buy the whole release just for fun...I think the release will be a longer sale period than I thought..The 001 Gold coa didnt get much premium on ebay..compared to the 001 tardis silver it was flat....However ..im looking fwd to the gold in hand

got the Dr Who gold coin today!....Im really impressed with the coin..the strike is absolutely perfect prooflike ms 70 ..what you would expect from a coin like this..my coa is 073 which is nice and low as well..The whole case kit is first class made from beautifully finished hardwood and feels very heavy....Im in Canada and bought off an ebay seller coin dealer acqua coins and they are very good to buy from with free shipping..i had to pony up customs of 300 which was a bit of a surprise because I thought gold was duty free but I should know better ..i think that only applies to bullion coins which this coin def is not...the reverse design of this coin has a lot of different finishes which translate most exquisitely into gold....you really get the sense of the tardis flying..The obverse cameo is frosty with perfect mirror fields. well worth the premium over a rather flat gold price these days..but at only 250 mintage when this coin sells out it should appreciate steadily for the long term......much better than a high end gold bullion coin....of comparable 1 oz.weight

checking the Dr Who coin 50th anniversary sales on ebay I notice that the prices seem to be pretty steady in the 125-200 range..The gold coin has 2 listings .....at 2400 us dollar which is a better deal than the NZ mint price of 2524 USD...i guess the fact that bullion is only 1200 these days is keeping this low mintage of 250 coins still available at mint.....im sure the dealers are a bit surprised at the lack of response but when the mintage does sellout that will change the picture considerably...but thats anyones guess...im still glad I bought the gold coin and as a work of Art and scarcity it will eventually rise in price .....but for now it would seem the gold is a slow mover..... for the serious collector only....who is a real fan of the Dr Who series ......

@Cass Yea I am thinking along the same lines. The Dr Who silver coin is really been strong and continues to appreciate, especially when the Mint sold out. I think in general, the price of silver and gold, being all over the board, not going higher and still not finding a stable price point is causing this drop in coins to a certain degree,,, and I think that people in turn are turning off the spigots on buying coins. That said, I think this is a great time period to be nibbling here and there on coins that are numismatic or semi numismatic.

@yup ...i just checked out the ebay sales on Dr Who and the market seems pretty stable with prices for the silver coin in the 140-50 range mostly..the gold coin is not selling and the NZ mint is looking for 3050NZD which translates into 2519USD which turns into 2811CAD which is my canada currency ....so I've made a technical profit already of 300.00CAD on the exchange rate!..as our dollar has dropped 10 cents since I bought the gold coin......as it happens ... which covers the 300 duty I paid to have it shipped from the USA dealer to Canada ...an ammount I've applied for as a duty refund as I'm sure that duty was not justified....as the coin is a pure bullion 999.9 gold coin...The Dr Who 11 coin set seems to be holding issue price or more and id still like to get that one .i note that the single coins from the 11 coin set are not available much anymore on ebay and some are listed as sold out already........but like you say @yup the spigot is off for buying right now in general I think unless youre buying low....

The Doctor Who silver Monsters subscription series also started. These are available at both the Perth Mint and the New Zealand Mint. But, for the gold coin, go to YouTube and there is a play list for the Perth Mint. There are at least two Doctor Who coin videos by the Perth Mint, one is for the gold coin.

i did receive a duty refund on the Dr Who gold coin! 318.00 CAD was the ammount refunded by CBSA / canada govt which they had charged me for shipping from the USA into Canada....I note that Perth Mint is sold out on the gold coin now...With the current gold fever in the market I doubt that the Dr Who gold coins will be available from the NZ much longer and theres not much on ebay either last time I looked only 1 going for 2600 CAD

Dr Who Gold is still listed at the NZ mint so it would seem that the 250 only mintage is a non factor in this coins popularity......I dont understand this reluctance because the coin is a tru rarity even in the overdone NCLT world of gold coins which regularily sell for these prices despite the huge drop in the price of gold.....I see more on ebay these days and the best price is still via the mint itself at 2589 USD..ebay prices range from 2600 to 3k plus

Dr Who gold coin is almost sold out at the NZ Mint......apparantly they have only 13 pieces left...Downies also have them..Acqua coins USA has them and there are some on ebay...Im not sure of any other sources so it shouldnt be too long before they are sold out in the main dealers catalogues
