Hey guys. I stumbled upon this toned 1926-S Peace dollar on the bay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/35087348079....m1423.l2649

The seller states that it is his opinion that the toning is natural AFTER the coin had been dipped and placed in an album for decades. Could this be true? The price has exceeded what I was willing to pay, but I still think the rainbow toning is awesome.

I'm inclined to trust the description. This guy knows a *bunch* about toners, for many different reasons....

I trust the seller. I have picked up a few things from him in the past and have always been pleased.

Yeah, my initial hunch was that he seemed honest. So, if this coin were to be professionally graded, would they consider it AT?

Gotta be careful with rainbow toned coins. I happen to like them BUT,
I have had some fun with some freshly issued cupronickel coins, using a kitchen stove.
With the careful application of heat after several failed trials, some very nice multi hued coins can be produced!

I wouldn't have the nerve to treat an MS silver dollar to this sort of abuse, perhaps some others may!

I was reminded of this sort of tom-foolery after looking at some overheated mild steel plates.

Don't get me wrong. I think this coin is the real deal, anyway.

Shane is the man, I'd trust him.
