today I got a 1977 one dollar note. it is brown (literally) and looks like it has been sitting in dirt (or ?) I was wondering should I save it or is it a spender? I am leaning towards it being a spender..although I know chances are if I spend it, it will be returned and destroyed.

Honestly, it's not a star note or anything and it's in terrible condition according to what you said and definitely worth face value, so unless you want to keep it for yourself (like I do), just spend it.

I think you can buy a crisp CU 1977 note on ebay for a few dollars.

So in my opinion this note would only be worth face value.
