What should I look for? I think I'll get Nickels and cents, there's the obvious - silver nickels, wheat cents, but what else?

Any particular date coin I should save? I know 50-D and 39-D for the nickels, obviously, and the keys for the cents, but anything else? Some other date to watch out for?

Thanks!

Good luck on your search. it is hard to believe but in the last two months I found two 1909 VDB cents in my roll searches. but have found nothing sense. I just finished a box yesterday and all I found in it was a 1995 P that has all the letters of Liberty filled. I'm not sure if it is a crack or just loose metal on the die but it is a nice coin for Education so I kept it. on your cents go to coppercoins.com and look up a few variety's before you open your box and you may get yourself in the right state of mind to look. here is the link. http://coppercoins.com/advsearch.php look good but don't look so long at a coin that you forget what your looking for and if you can not see it at about 16-20 times magnification it is not there so don't turn your scope up to 200 it wont help.
nickels I don't collect to I cant help there
Good luck
Gary too

Keep your RedBook handy as you go through the rolls , the more obvious ones are listed in it ,,

Coppercoins site is a good place to go look around there is an education to be had there .

If you have a local book store you may check and see if they have the latest edition of CherryPickers Guide .

Here is another site you may want to browse through

and one to help Identify different forms of doubling .

I just went through 10 rolls of nickels and 10 rolls of pennies. In the pennies, I looked for anything that was a year with a double die, Close AM, Wide AM. I think I may have a DDO 95 out of my lot...will know more tomorrow! I also found an extremely heavy pressed penny.
