I was chatting witht eh teller at one of my usual banks and she mentioned that she had this one half that she "Just cant get rid of. The coin machine keps spitting it out" Turns out it was a 1966, that was GROSS. as you can see. Copper then gold plated, worn out, holed and green. Ish! She told me that this lady had a bunch of coins in her basement and she had been keeping them forever, then decided to cash them in. BAH! Sadly, this is all that was left.

That thing needs to be put out out of it's misery and sent to a smelter by your LCS in their latest shipment.

Is there a way to strip off the copper and gold without harming the silver too badly? If I could manage that, at least it wouldnt look like a pink and yellow turd.

There is a lot of things you could do with all sorts of solutions to improve that coin. However, in the end you would spend a lot of money and end up with a coin worth 1/2 dollar at best.

Looks like a failed modified coin for jewelry use.

No matter what it looks like it's still worth $3.21, I say it's an outstanding deal for FV.

baysinger626, Some years ago I learned that ketchup was good for cleaning the bottoms of copper coated pans. Your coin would make a very nice key ring. Ages ago I came upon some advice: if you wish to experiment with cleaning coins try inexpensive examples. Your result was worth the risk. But I would not recommend cleaning as a rule. Bottom line: you cannot argue with a face value acquisition.

Well, with the hole, it's probably only $3.00...

It looks kind of cool after the ketchup treatment. I would put it on my key chain if it were mine. Oh, and I have to ask, Heinz or Hunts?
