1972 Penny, No Mint Mark And Smiling Elephant Head

Roe New Member United States 2 Posts	Posted 09/22/2013 01:16 am I inherited this penny so I have no idea about it. it is in white collectors square, mint condition, with an elephant head to the right of lincoln's face. pix attached taken with cell phone through 10x loupe. The elephant would have been stamped into the surface by a third party, possibly to advertise a circus. Cents produced at the Philadelphia mint, do not have a mint mark. Report this Post to the Staff

Not sure of the details, but I think there was a sort of display thing with a large variety of those. One of the more famous ones was the Lincoln Cent with Kennedy's face stamped in fromt of Lincoln. Also, those were sold with a card explaining all the similarities. Not sure how to find old posts here but there are those here that could find old references like that and post a link to them.
