A Hard Times token, Ben, though believed to date from the 1850s, so put in a "Merchant Token" period between Hard Times and Civil War tokens. I believe in the style of the Liberty Head gold coinage from 1839 on. This store card is for E. LYON, whose name replaces LIBERTY on Liberty's coronet. The obverse legend reads 424 BROADWAY NEW YORK.
Funny thing is, there seem to be letters above Liberty's head instead of the six stars; perhaps "E. LYON." written a second time? Perhaps someone with the Rulau text could tell us if this is a known variant.
