In the 2012 annual report from the RCM it lists the 2012 mintage for the Farewell to the Penny - Fine Silver 5-coin Set - at 2817... less than the published mintage of 5000. The set went on sale at the end of September and sold out to MC and Dealers. From what I can find the RCM started shipping at the beginning of October 2012 and should have finished before the end of the year. I guess my question here is does anyone know if customers received shipment of this set in 2013? If 2013 shipments occurred then there probably are 5000 sets, if they didn't ship in 2013 why the reduced mintage?

Wow. Ordered in September and received the following year! That is quite the delay.
Thanks for the info CC

That's nothing.
Still waiting for 2013 50 cent roll ordered in February.
Many items in 2012 were delayed 4 months or more.

Back to the question...How many were minted? 5000 or 2817?

I think it is a pretty safe assumption that mintage is 5000 - a few returns that were not resold (if any)?
Accounting rules do not let you recognize revenue until a product sale is completed (in the mint's case, shipped to customer), because so many of the sets were shipped in 2013, we should see the balance on this years annual report. I am assuming that they take their mintage numbers as actual units sold, not produced, because my understanding is that recycle unsold products. For example,

That table in the annual report is often suspect especially for issues dated one year but sold in a subsequent year. That said, I would agree completely that it's virtually certain that all 5000 were produced. BTW - the question was did anyone receive the set in 2013. The answer was yes. The subsequent question was moot.

You know, that RCM didn't issue this, right? It could be not "hand made", since maybe printed on print machine using quality paper, but for sure "home made" edition. Added: I also received my 5 coin Penny set in January 2013....

I supposed RCM didn't but always a confirmation is helpful. By your answer I guess you're not getting anyone...

It will increase, but not till infinity, will settle at some point. Actually I think, it's peak already passed ($500 for set), but now I believe it could be found for $350-$400, and this not the end of the decrease. After all - less than 1 oz silver.

Quote: Wow! almost 2 years delay..... Lol. At some point I plan to get one of these sets . Figured I would finish the question on final mintage.I looked at both 2012 and 2013 reports and some how there is an extra set sold/produced or its a listing error. 2817 from the 2012 report. 2184 from the 2013 report. 5001 sets were sold/produced.

I bought the Dream catcher coin and it only took them 9 months to get it to me. The reason is the Mint claims a striking error was found in the second run of this coin. The Mint rejecting the second run, never said what the error was wondering if any made out to the public
