So last week I was out checking a few local Canada Post locations and I found the 2015 Haunted Canada 25c coin and stamp set for 10% off. At the very next location, they actually had two of the 2014 "Ghost Bride" Haunted Canada coin and stamp set. At the time I only got one, but this week I decided to go see if the "extra" one was still there. It was, so I grabbed it. Sadly, when I got home, I saw that it had clearly been opened previously because, 1) there was a circular mark in the cellophane left by the coin when originally packaged, and 2) whomever had been inspecting it tore the cellophane about 1/3 of the length when re-packing it. Wah, wah wah..... Paid $33 CAD, and see that these (when mint) are going for 60-70 on ebay so I thought the 'spare' could basically buy me my keeper. Do I sell the one I got last week instead and keep the one with the torn cellophane? Do I try to sell the torn OGP as "no return" while clearly marking the defect? OR do I avoid any potential headache (and forego any savings on my 'keeper') and just return it to CP and wait for the next "great deal"....? Since I can't decide, I was hopeful people would say what (and perhaps why) they'd do X, Y or Z.... Thanks for any input! (I would have listed it here already but lack the 250 quality posts to try that, so if anyone wants to offer anything just let me know, because I'm happy to "keep it in the family".)

Just my Two Cents, list both for $65 and $45, respectively, and clearly explain the condition of the defective one (or with clear shots of photos). Whichever got sold, then you keep the other. It should pay off your keeper, at least partly ... Hope it helps. =)

What does it say on the receipt about return policy for the 10% off sale?

Alex, the 10% off purchase was the single 2015 set... both of the 2014 Ghost Brides (of which I later discovered one was damaged) were sold at FRP.
Van, good idea, but what if both sell? :) (I'm not really an eBayer, maybe there's a trick I don't know).
At the end of the day, how many collectors would care about torn cellophane and if so, by what degree? 10% loss? 30% loss? (45 vs 65 is basically 30% reduction). If it's 30%, since it doesn't particularly bother me, maybe I'm better-off keeping it and selling the 'good' one....
(Thanks Van and Alex!)

Imo, the best is to save all headache, and just return the coin (the one that in the torn package) So you will not get CAD 20-25 .... that's all.
Are they really such popular, that people paying more than issue?

Silveroid, It does appear that the original in the series, Ghost Bride, is routinely going for 60-70 on ebay lately... before I saw the tear the dream was to have it pay for it's twin. C'est la vie. Some dreams die :) I'm not in a place to do a return today, so I still have time to consider the options.

This collector OCD obsession with packaging for RCM coins is the main reason why I despise selling said products on ebay.

I am leaning toward the return option... ebay seems like a pain, most especially for this scenario.

Yes I'd return it. Why pay ebay fees?

They want pristine packaging; that means no sign of wear. For that reason I rarely buy off ebay unless I really want it badly. Between 2 identical items I will buy the one with perfect packaging, even if it costs more. Since the coin set has been opened that means it is no longer "brand new". It is no different than buying a sealed electronic vs a opened box. Open box items always go for a discount. In your case, since it is not a very rare item, you may have to discount it at 50%. After fees you are not going to get much out of it I would return the opened one and keep the good one.
