Mr. Lincoln's tailor was a little short on material; check out the lower left lapel (greasers?).

That missing detail is the result of excessive die polishing/abrading. It would be unusual for a struck-through to leave a similar island of detail on two different coins. However, the bottom corner of the lapel has a higher relief than the surrounding upper lapel so that little island is better able to survive an an aggressive abrading. The front of the throat, back of the neck, and bridge of the nose are also areas prone to go flat with die polishing.

Great looking coin. I've seen a lot of struck throughs but not a lot of soft strikes like these two. I'll have to go through all my LMCs from the 70's.

Interesting and great info indeed. I've been meaning to post something like this for some time! I've got almost a full roll of these dating between 70-78. I kept 'em figuring they were interesting but must be extremely common (since I have so many). Great find and thanks for posting this!

Common if you have rolls of the same batch that struck these coins. Not common if you find them in circulation. Not a real premium for them, but interesting to share with others if they are interested. New collectors like these. It helps to educate them.
