Over the years I have collected around $5k of star notes and various denomination bills from 1960-1990's (older style). I tried to ebay the star notes (just under $2.5k) but no luck. With the new year coming I would like to use this $5k toward my 2014 IRA contribution.

Can anyone give me a compelling argument /reason as for keeping these bills as I am having trouble parting with them!?

Thanks,
Jon

$5K "face value"? Never mind, I see that you tried to sell them for half, which would be ridiculous.

I have nothing of any value to offer other than; for every day you hang on to these "older" bills, more and more are being taken out of circulation for being tattered, worn and unservicable.

I have tried to sell off my little stash of bills; stars, WEBS, fancy s/n, etc...you just have to wait it out. Selling them all at one time would be the most expedient method, but selling them in smaller quantities should benefit more $$$. Have tried breaking them down into Series, like 1969, A, B, C, D? Some people may be looking for certain ones and snag the five of them to upgrade or fill "holes" in their collection.

"I" snag just about any One Dollar Bill that is AU or better within the 20th Century. The worse case scenario is that it did not collect any interest (other than my own) on a "face value" bill.

Have you tried to list them here at the CCF in the Auction/Buy It Now section on the left?

I'd rather not sit on any cash anymore. Interest is more appealing as I grow older. Plus it kind of loses money to inflation...I'm at least getting 1% if it just sits in my checking.

Thanks all.

I'd try selling them on wheresgeorge.com first... they don't have any post count restriction to sell either. 20% return might be doable.
