I emailed the Dollar Coin Alliance guy back, about $200, $500, and $1,000 bills, and here is what we said:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

ME:

Are you very busy? If so, I'm sorry to bother you one more time, but, do you think that there is any interest in issuing $200 bills and reissuing the $500 bill? And do you think if we pushed for reissuing $1,000 bills as well, that $1,000 bills would be stepping into the danger zone of going too far? I mean, maybe with a $200 bill it might not be so bad, but a $500 bill may raise some concern with drug dealers, money launderers, counterfeiters, and other crime rings that use cash in their operations, $1,000 bills more so. I do want at least a $200 and especially a $500 bill, for when I make large cash purchases, like buying used cars from private owners, appliances, electronics, and some people I talk to, say $200, $500 and $1,000 bills would make it much easier to carry cash to buy coins and currency at coin shows in cash, for those dealers who prefer cash.

Plus, if you agree that the $1 bill has the purchasing power of about what a dime did in the 1970s, don't you agree that by now, a $100 bill, going back in on July 14, 1969, when the $500, $1,000, $5,000 and $10,000 bills were discontinued, would be about a $1,000 bill today?

Like I said, once the $1 bill meets its demise, I hope we can go after these issues, because printing $200 bills and reprinting $500 and possibly $1,000 bills again would likely save the government hundreds of millions, if not billions in printing so many less $100 bills, which like I said, the demand for $100 bills is streadily growing, especially overseas, and with more and more security features needing to be added to the $100 bill after eacg regular redesign it undergoes, the $100 bill is becoming more and more expensive to print, and printing at least $200 and $500 bills would help save money and make sense.

But like I was asking, do you think I should stick to just $200 and $500 bills, or should I include $1,000 bills in my proposal? I'm curious to know what you think on the issue.

Again, I hope I'm not becoming a but of a bother if you are busy, but Thank You for your time, anyway.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DOLLAR COIN ALLIANCE:

I'm buried, but I will tell you that there is discussions going on about the $500 bill. Secret Service is against it for counterfeit reasons, but Treasury wants since the $100 doesn't have the purchasing power it once had. Stay tuned,

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This could be some very positive news. I hope it goes through. This proposal should be easier to pass than getting rid of $1 bills, or even getting rid of cents, bith of which I hope happen soon.

UPDATE:

I asked for a little more detail:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ME:

Can you give me any more information on the $500 bill issue? I mean, what exactly did you hear? Is there somewhere on the internet where I can see this information? And was there any mention of a $200 bill as well? And was there any set time frame for when they would hope to acomplish reissuing $500 bills by?

Since you're busy, this will be the last email I send to you for a while. Oh, and one more thing. About the co-sponsor of the COINS Act, how many do you think you'll need to get rid of the $1 bill? And could the COINS Act possibly be passed by the end of this year?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DOLLAR COIN ALLIANCE:

No,nothing out there official yet, just preliminary internal discussions. No mention of $200 bill.

We'll need around 75 or so to get traction in the House, 30 or so in the Senate. Chance we can pass as an amendment to another bill by the end of the year.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Man, I hope they can get their co-sponsors they need, or pass the COINS Act as an ammendment to another bill as the DCA mentions, later on this year.

Also, if the $500 bill gets reissued, and no $200 bill is issued, I may still lobby for $200 bills, but not $1,000 bills. I don't want to press my luck, and I think $1,000 bills would do just that.

If re-issued, which I highly doubt, any new $500 note should be done on polymer not paper. Only polymer can give the security needed to thwart counterfeiters.
