The old pure nickel 5-cent coins are worth far more as metal than the face value. Is anyone hoarding them? Are dealers paying more than face and/or selling them retail as a bullion product?

As a collector it bothers me a bit that so many are in a rush to melt down coins to make a buck. Think of all the beautiful silver coins that were melted down in the early 80's. Think of all the possible rare or old cents and nickels which will be lost because someone wants to make a buck on copper and nickel hoards. Circulating coins will take a huge step to being boring when there is nothing to look forward to in pocket change or coin rolls.

I have a few of these but I wouldn't sell them to be melted...I agree with what's been said already, think of all of the historical value that could be lost.

Just sold 10 boxes of pre 1981 nickels to a dealer at Torex.
They paid .20 cents a piece
Face is 1000.00 (10 boxes @ $100/box) and sold for $400/box and make 3000.00 cash
Worked out going through 4 boxes of nickels you would get about 1 box of keepers plus other odd and ends.
definitely a good profit.
The kids had a great time doing it and made good cash.

I have some to sell for .20 per nickel. E-mail me the dealers address and I'll get ahold of them.
