Not sure if this applies to anyone here but please spread the word.
Please understand as dealers we can not legally speak about any new products before the release date. The release date for any new products is October 1/13 in this case. I understand that people get excited for new products and the rush to buy before they are gone is usually at an epic level. But it makes for an awkward phone call when people call me and I have to try and explain that I don't know what products they are talking about. You are wasting your time and mine so please just be patient and wait.

Why would have to pretend you don't know what they are talking about? A simple, 'sorry, we are not able to sell until Oct 1st' would do it. The post office and other dealers do it all the time....one smaller dealer will even take 'preorders' though I expect that is against the 'rules'.
BTW, if you really don't know what they are talking about, check the other threads here or the red forum/eBay for pics. ;)

Im not allowed to say anything about the products until they are released. So if I were to say oh yes the "so and so" coin I would be acknowledging it and thus talking about it. I would rather not take the chance of violating the rules. Yes the small dealer is definitely in violation of the rules.

The Mint really puts you in a no win situation. In the real word, information flows very quickly and for them to have coins on their website for sale to thousands of people, not to mention the forums and ebay, AND expect you to disavow any knowledge of said coins is ridiculous. I also doubt it violates any NDA you have with them but it's your choice what you tell your customers. That said, I probably wouldn't go on the public forum and admit to deceiving my customers. Respectfully, your issue is with the RCM, not people who call you 'and waste your time'.

When I'm on the phone with people that I have no way to help because I'm handcuffed by "the rules" that I follow and miss calls or have to make a customer wait while I play the "I don't know what your talking about" game. Then yes it is a waste of time for both the caller that I can't help, For the caller that is potentially waiting and yes even for myself.
Writing this post is not about deceiving customers. It is about honesty. It is about educating people so we can all function together better. I want everyone to know the rules after all when you are involved in an activity is it not better to have everyone playing by the same set of rules?

Gatewest, I have to respectfully say your posts are coming off somewhat arrogant. Like "don't bother me, I have better things to do". May not be your intention but it sounds like that in the message.
If clients are contacting to purchase items that you cannot discuss, then say it like that and kindly ask them to call back on the date they're available. What's the big deal really? Better yet, if answering clients calls is an issue, have your calls answered with a message stating you cannot discuss new releases until whatever date.
I think Gatewest is thought of well on these boards and a lot of business gets referred to you via members' posts. Your tone is coming off as somewhat unappreciative that you have a lot of people wanting to purchase from your store.
I will say that I've purchased from you and had excellent service. I just think you're doing yourself more harm than good by posting comments like this.

I have to say Gatewest is very honest in honouring the prices of the gold Superman coins. Despite the coins selling for more than $2000 they sent the coins out at whatever prices they posted on their site.
Kudos to them!

".... You have reached Gatewest Coins. Please note, if you are calling to inquire about the October RCM releases, we are unable to provide any information until XXX date. Thank you for your patience. Stay on the line to speak to our customer representative" ~~ do this in a pleasant and subtly British accent and Presto -problem solved. CC_Ottawa is coming off harsh but is hitting the issue right on the mark. Expecting that coming on this form and using text (hard to not sound arrogant and off the mark) presented to a select population (i don't think all of your customers come from here. If they do, this forum accepts donations -hint hint) to solve your time wasting problem of dealing with eager customers IS, instead, what is wasting your time. Oh, replace "the October RCM releases" with "any RCM release not yet updated on our website http://www. whatever your website is .com" if you're not even "allowed" to say "October" by the RCM Police

Sorry SoulBrotherNo3 and anyone else on the forum that is offended. If that is how it sounds I apologize my intent is quite the opposite.
What I'm trying to do is give a better explanation to customers here than I can possibly do on the phone. Unfortunately I can not possibly answer all the questions customers have on the new products. Whether it be about pricing, how many they can have or when delivery will be. These questions can not be answered at this time both because of time and as mentioned before by me being handcuffed by rules. That is all nothing more.
As one of the dealers that is now active here on the forum I'm trying to open communication and not close it. I felt joining the forum was a good way to be able to further communicate with customers both existing and potential to help solve problems, Not cause more. Again if anyone took my words the wrong way I apologize.

No problem or offence taken at all Darren. I absolutely understand where you're coming from. It would be a pain to answer so many repetitive questions.
There are many educated buyers on these boards but also many new members that don't know dealer protcol so I think it's excellent that you come on here and explain your encumbrances with new releases. Education is fabulous and benefits the entire community. To hear it from a large, reputable dealer like Gatewest is invaluable so I do thank you for participating in these boards.

The good news is that you can call on 10th October Gatewest and you will have all coins available :-)

May not be your intention but it sounds like that in the message. SoulBrotherNo3 exactly understood my posts. I guess I was too subtle. I would have no issue with a dealer coming on here and explain that they can't sell or take orders before general release. That seems proactive to save us (your current and protential customers) time. But, blaming customers for wasting your time by calling? I mean, it would be great to be a retailer if not for having to deal with all of those pesky customers bothering us all the time? I understand (or hope) that is not what was meant but that is essentially what was typed. Darren, I agree, your post is not about deceiving your customers, but telling them you 'know nothing about the coins' certainly is, and is not something I would do. There must be a better option for you. May I suggest that you clarify with the RCM that you cannot simply acknowledge that the coins exist but that you cannot sell until a certain date? pobowx gave you the perfect narrative to use when customers call assuming that you have an automated phone system. That said, I'm happy that we get occasional input on this forum from dealers. Dialogue between sellers and buyers is very much appreciated.

It would be simple to say, "I have no comment on any new coins until the official issue date".
It's like watching the news when reporters asks questions to individuals. The individual just says "no comment". Simple as that.

Quote:Rules are rules and Gatewest must respect the Royal Canadian Mint's policy PERIOD. This goes to show the entire NCLT phenomenon is gone totally crazy. My goodness... and I'm so sorry because I've helped create that monster. The MC club wasn't meant to be what it is today and IMO the MC elite is an aberration. If those "POLICIES" are the "RULES" then we - the "COLLECTORS" are doomed because the incentive is now mainly to FLIP. FLIP THIS COIN !
