I wanted to get a take on the community on a coin that I acquired which is known by a few to exist but is very rare. It is a 2011 Sovereign proof coin that has a die cast error. My sources tell me that there are only about 27 of these coins and I have not found anyone else with one. Just out of interest, what value do you think this would fetch.
The Error is shown on the second picture as a line extending from the knee upwards. I have tried to take a few pictures, but am hoping to get some more detailed views if the interest is there.
I have to say that I don't believe casting errors are as popular in the UK as in some other countries.
And as we're basically talking about a bullion coin here, I can't see that any UK buyer would pay any more for it. You have to remember that price is related to desirability rather than rarity and however rare something is, if there's no market for it ....
Perhaps so, however I believe there is a relationship between desirability and rarity. There has always been a premium for those items that are rare and people will pay for the uniqueness. It is also conceivable that such a specimen is not known and educating people is what is required.
You asked for advice on how much this coin would be worth in your first post and you answered your own question in your latest with this "It is also conceivable that such a specimen is not known and educating people is what is required.".
Most likely only time will tell.
Having said that, can you tell us who your "sources" are that told you only 27 exist? What was the "mintage" for lack of a better word for this bullion coin? If it was an error that was never supposed to leave the minting location, it could certainly be a rarity. However, if it's just a matter of only 27 being reported thus far, there could be thousands etc. Just curious where you are getting your info.
