A variety documented by Rob Turner, and also mentioned in the 65th Edition Charlton. You don't see these very often, in this nice of a grade. Since I don't collect large cents, I thought I would bring it to the attention of those who do... http://www.ebay.com/itm/251344828547"Discovery follows discovery, each both raising and answering questions, each ending a long search, and each providing the new instruments for a new search." -- J. I believe that it was discovered by a member of the board here and discussed heavily. Rob gave it the name after careful study. It's one of my favorite '88's.

A little blurry there.. The Charlton shows the bead in the lower loop of the 8. This example shows "a disturbance" in the top and bottom loop in the middle 8.. Maybe it's just my old eyes..
A VF 20 at "full trends" ..and then some +++.

It's called a bead punch because either a small die chip or crack formed at 9:00 in the inside of the lower loop of the middle 8. They corrected it by smacking it with, supposedly, a bead punch to take away any of the sharp angles in the anomoly, rounding the edges out. Just like you can drill a hole at either end of a crack in most metalic plate or plating. It smooths out the stress concentration points in a sharply angled pit or crack start. It works very well with surface cracks by just dishing out the end, like they repait windshield pits/chips.

I remember when you bought that one Randy, from Coin Mart at the last Airport Hilton Torex we all attended - before we turned our collective backs on CCRS and Torex...
I think that was the last time we also all had beers with Doug Carlson...

It is a 64red, but is in neither trends or Charlton catalogue.
