I don't think that's an error. Just looks like some paint got on the coin.

What solvent would that 45 dollar be safe to drop it into ..and not dammage it with? .I was thinkin maybe ``Varsol` ? ..and then alcohol for a rince. or...Maybe it's just a felt marker stain..?...

When I saw that coin - it had a purple to blue dark toning to it - someone has tried to already mess with that coin by dipping it. Now it looks like a corroded, cleaned coin.
There is nothing more that you can do...

Bulk auction lots like that - you have to take with a grain of salt. Chances are, if there was a gem in someone's old coin collection, a dealer would spot it a mile away and pull it out. It is a decent "hole-filler" (I have seen a lot worse...). It is like buying bulk lots on ebay or collections in Whitman holders... it is a gamble... sometimes you win, most times you lose...

I think this can possibly be made to look a touch better..... try some " dissolve " first then afterwards a treatment with some MS70. Agree with spp though chances are it is too far gone.

if you make it a pocket piece you may be able to get rid of a fair amount of the black. it will take a loooong time though.

Graffiti remover would work on paint in two minutes no residue, rinse in water.

Acetone would have removed it if it were paint. Full stop. They use acetone to thin paint....
