From Steve Hayden off
ebay, a Major Vermont Rarity, and one missing from many collections, the Ryder 26. This in one of the obtainable Keys, along with Ryders 1, 15 and 30, the 30 being the one I still need. The 26 shares the obverse die with 24 and 25, but the reverse is a "tragic" die with a huge crack across the top. Of course we don't know how many were originally struck at Machins Mill, but the coin is so rare that Sylvester Crosby was unaware of this variety when he wrote his masterwork in the 1870s. Today it is rated R6 with 30 known examples. The finest two are XFs, with most in the VG range. This piece has unfortunately had some
PMD but still, it IS what it IS, a Ryder 26 and a desirable coin in any grade. Enjoy!
