I was wondering if die cracks make a coin worth more or less, or more or less collectible? I am interested in purchasing a coin with a huge die crack in it for my collection and willing to pay good for it considering the condition and the age of the coin.... thanks for any help... PEACE..
Generally speaking, everybody will answer this differently.
They'll add interest - and potential value - for some people, and turn others off. In the case of some issues, they're key to known die states/varieties, and might for that reason command a premium. They're very common in some issues (early Nickel coins, Morgans, etc.) and uncommon in others, but rarely absent completely.
I am one who is fascinated by die cracks, Cuds and other mint errors in series I love. I do have some neat 3CNs with Cuds, laminations, etc. but with the exception of one, I did not pay a premium for them. My avatar was the exception and even then I did not pay too much over what it was worth to the general public.

Let's see it!
I'll throw another vote in for a BIG PLUS on Die Cracks! I have a few that are fairly obvious. As SsuperDdave mentioned about the "new" nickels, the mint had a heck of a time keeping dies in working order with this new metal.
For me die cracks add "personality" to a coin. I won't buy a coin because of a die crack. BUT I won't avoid a coin because of a die crack if I it is otherwise what I want for a set.
There are some coins for which a die crack is a diagnostic but I suspect not many.
As a general rule, coins with abnormally large or numerous die cracks in comparison to their respective series will command a premium. Take into account though, that not everyone recognizes this premium and would comsider them defects or distractions or just normal die wear. Other times, a die crack will command a premium if it's interesting, representative of a rare die pairing or state, or on a special strike such as a proof or SMS coin.
sorry about that O, its a 1865 2 cent piece with a continuous die crack that starts in "states" and goes past "America" there's a lot of die cracks or what looks like die cracks on the reverse in several areas.. very neat coin IMO...

It can be instructive to pull out the bidding history and sort it by time to see how badly somebody wants it...
