I did that a lot recently, for the coins that I bought directly from RCM, mostly to replace defective coins.

Basically I follow the instruction from the RCM's webpage:
http://www.mint.ca/store/mint/custo...010#returns2

Make sure you mentioned whether you want to exchange the coin or return the coin for refund when requesting the RMA, because if it is an exchange, the customer representative will place a replacement order for the coin right away to put a hold on the coin, it won't get shipped until they received your return package.

If the coin is defective, the Mint will refund you the postage, so ship with "Xpresspost with Signature", from GTA to Ottawa, usually it is about 13$ (for me at least), it includes 100$ insurance so ask the cashier at CP to include 100$ insurance (you need to pay extra if you want more coverage). Also remember to ask for a duplicate copy of receipt for the postage you paid and put them in the box as well.

With the tracking number on the receipt, you will find out when the mint have received your package. From my experience, the replacement coin will be shipped out the next business day unless it is something awaiting stock. If the package arrived later than the "expected shipping date", you could open a ticket at CP's website to request for a refund of postage.
Otherwise, after a week if you still haven't received any refund for postage from the Mint, call and ask them for an update.
