I think I see what you're seeing but I don't think that it is a MM. It's just some little aberration in the metal playing a trick.

It falls in the die flow area. But I would hang onto it for now and not toss it back.

I do see a very faint S inside the D as well as a S where you have it circled on the obverse. I would keep the coin cause if nothing else it is very interesting.

I definitely see the S. Looks like the bottom serif is on Lincoln's coat too.

A punched mint mark would be taller than die flow. It would need to be raised as it is punched into the die. A die polishing could remove die flow, but not as easily to remove a punching of the mint mark.

I actually have something like that as well. Mine is a 56D. I guess I'll have to dig it out.

The flow lines radiate outward from the center. Your feature's upper serif cuts accross the flow lines. I find that interesting.

I see the S but it looks to big to be a MM. IMO anyway.

Thank you for all the comments. This coin also shows interior lines; possible secondary mint mark lines within the "D". Did SF send dies to Denver in 1956? Did Denver polish out S mint marks on those dies?

There are several OMMs ( Over Mint Marks) for the series. It is possible. There are two "ghost" RPMs for 56. It is more than possible. And if mine matches yours....things could get interesting.
