I believe this the error were the mint forgets to plate them with copper.

Also, does anyone know if it's worth anything?

How can you tell if they're chemical dipped?

dull rough surfaces= post-mint stripping of the plating

A genuine unplated Lincoln will have nice cartwheel luster and the zinc will be silvery-blue in color. Without that diagnostic, you have to assume that it has been altered.

It is also worth noting that the planchets are supplied by a third party contractor(Jarden Zinc), the Mint does nothing but strike them into coins.

Here is what an unplated cent should look like:

Most of the time you can see on the stripped/zinc added examples you can see copper in the area next to the field, roughness on the surfaces and bumps from zinc over the plated orange rind that was from the first plating.

Rest in Peace

It's just an addiction I have. I just finished the version 6 of the DVD. It is up to 146 minute long. Max is 150, so I've to the point where I would have to eliminate stuff to put new stuff on it. I'm sure everyone will like it when they get a copy. It has 1,248 images on it. Started out at 900+. Covers some new stuff. Love tokens, encased stamps and other information.

There's a number of ways supposed unplateds come about. They can be chemically stripped, deplated or some cases replated with a silver type metal. People some times paint coins, rub mercury on them and there are youtube vids showing ways of chemically making plated Lincolns seem silverish or golden. Genuine unplated Lincolns are about as rare as any other off-metal error such as a Lincoln struck on a clad planchet.

Oh well, thank you all for taking the time to post.

I will be posting a new coin tomorrow that I think is an error.
It's a modern one. With the luck I have been having, I bet it's nothing at all, lol.
