Looking at an Auction site. I see a coin I was interested in. The description starts off like this
Up for Buy it now is a 1919 S Wheat Penny(stock photo used).
Now farther down you see this
Full Store/Auction Refunds only will be given for item/items visibly different from Clear photos Provided in the Description as you are the Final true judge on item/items up for sale I will refund Only for wrong item/items sent after it is returned to me.
I emailed the seller this
Okay so you say returns only if the Item is clearly visible from the picture but you also state your using a stock photo. So the coin you see is not the one you get?
Then get this in return
Oops looks like you are blocked and probably just jealous of my success !
Now upon trying to report this the system can't find this persons ID as valid for a complaint.
Am I wrong here I mean I find it misleading to a point?

I think you are totally justified in the action that you took. There are a "Lot" of ebay sellers out there that are crooks! I wouldn't take it personally because you did the right thing by trying to report the seller. it looks like if you bid your damned either way, you loose money or get a crappy coin. Do you have the link for the auction?

Sort of like trying to tell a Monkey to figure out Einstien's Theories. Why bother yourself even conversing with people that just are not capable.

I would assume that it's simple forgetfulness (or laziness) on the part of the seller, copy-and-pasting their standard boilerplate blurb about refunds, even for an item where the standard blurb is either inappropriate or requires editing. Quote: ...and nor will I buy from this seller lol I think, since you say he's blocked you, that that issue is now moot. Seriously, though, it is an attitude I've been seeing more and more of on ebay - any kind of question, commentary or constructive criticism of a seller's item results in an immediate block placed by the seller upon the questioner. The attitude seems to be that anyone who raises issues or asks any questions at all must therefore be some kind of troublemaker with too much time on their hands and is therefore likely to be a difficult customer if they were to actually buy stuff. They presumably prefer customers who just meekly hand over their money without going around asking pesky questions or pointing out their mistakes. To me, it seems like an excellent reason to get yourself multiple ebay accounts - one for buying, one for selling, and one for "causing trouble" - also known as asking honest questions. So much for ebay Community Spirit. As a side-issue: I thought using "stock photos" was prohibited from the Coins section of ebay? Quote:From ebay stamps, currency, and coins policy - General guidelines for coins and paper moneyInclude a clear picture of the actual item being sold â€" don't use stock photos. Is this "general guideline" an ebay Commandment which Thou Shalt Not Break, or just a suggestion?

as soon as I see "more than one available" I assume the item is using a stock photo, which the seller confirms in the item description. states you will get VG or better, offers a refund policy. not sure what's unclear? if you look a little deeper into the seller you'll see he's a disabled guy running his ebay store (with almost 10,000 positive feedback) with his 3 grandkids. although his reply to you was a little odd (maybe one of the kids sent it?) for $1.55 & free shipping are you really that concerned?

This is an interesting double standard for ebay. Their policy strictly prohibits stock photos of raw coins, yet they don't seem to worry about listings of an individual coin with multiple examples available.

I emailed the seller the following:
"Hello, I am wondering if you can answer a question about this coin? The auction details state the photo is a stock photo, but your return policy says you only accept returns if the coin I receive is not the same as the one shown in the photo. Can you please advise how I can see a photo of the ACTUAL coin, and not the stock photo? Thank you."
The reply I got was as follows:
"?"
Not very helpful.

So I replied to the guy with "I'm not sure what the confusion is here. Your auction details say the photo you have is a stock photo, but your return policy says you don't take returns unless the coin is not the same as shown in the photo. How can I see the actual coin so I can make a confident bid?" I got "Read the description carefully and also see that other buyers knew what to do...it isn't rocket science...Certainly you can figure it out, Good Day" So I sent "Obviously I did read the description, which is why I know what the dilemma is here. If other buyers want to take their chances, that's on them, but I asked for help and clarification and got attitude. I hope you don't have such a poor approach with all your other customers, because I am no longer interested in supporting your business. Good luck with your little racket." What a moron. I know when I sell on ebay, I always photograph the actual coin, and no matter if it is .10 cents of $50.00, I never hesitate to answer a question as thoroughly as I can. This guy is not worth the cent he is selling.
