In the past, to avoid being taxed you had to purchase over $1,000. Now you can purchase 1 oz and not pay any tax. When speaking to my local dealer this morning, he was happy about the news and mentioned sales have picked up. I think this is great news.

That is very good news....over here in the UK we have to pay 20% tax (VAT) on investment silver while investment silver is typically free from VAT. Maybe I need to make some new friends who live in Texas.

As far as I know Maryland still taxes bullion when the purchase price is below $1000.

I saw this the other day, and now maybe Heritage will get more bids from me, a few ebay sellers I purchase from fairly regularly are also local in Texas, so this is great news!

If I am not mistaken, it only applies to bullion. Modern issues, classic coins, TPG slabbed coins, Mint packaged sets and Collector issued ASE's from the mint are stilled taxed at 6.25% or 8.25% here in Houston

Hi CCF'ers,

My in-laws are "winter Texans", my wife and I have been going down there over Xmas the last few years. Nice escape from the Canadian cold...

Does anyone know of any good coin shops or bullion dealers in central Texas? Specifically in the Austin-New Braunfels-San Antonio area? I'm just looking for bullion and some Morgan/Peace dollars.

Great news I actually just placed a order with provident. I previously didn't order from them because of the tax I will definitely buy more silver locally to. Didn't Louisiana do the same thing to?
