Hi everyone,I just found this impaired proof Jefferson Prez dollar in circulation. However, it is scratched up and Jefferson's face is a bit darker than in the picture. So I'm just not sure what to do with it. Would you say that I should hold onto it or just figure that it is kaput at this point and spend it? thanks.

Well, I like impaired proofs - if you want to ditch it, I'll trade you for a shiny new loonie.

ray_keeney- it's a proof that has been mistreated, beaten up a little bit, and possibly even circulated, as happened to my example. So it is a proof that just isn't that great, yet the entire point of proofs is that they are great.

I would keep it if I found it. I like proofs even if they are impaired.

I got an impaired proof Presidential dollar in a roll a few months ago. It had a weird finish to it so I had a feeling it was a proof even before I saw the mintmark. I am keeping it just because it is proof. I doubt it will ever be worth a premium but it doesn't matter.

It might be valued at like 1.25.

Your best off keeping it.

I think it's easy. If it was worth your time to discuss it here - it has to worth the 1$ it cost to keep it .
