I'm not big on Morgans but this is a keeper for me. One thing I do appreciate is the fact that this is basically the strongest overdate die state for this coin. It's very easy to see the "O" over the "S".

I do like Morgan dollars and an 1882 O/S is a very desirable coin. A first glance it looked AU55. I always cartwheel a coin and look at the luster. Yours doesn't have a lot of luster. But 1882-O issues tended to be well struck but with subdued luster. Yours is definitely a slider. I would peg this as AU58 but would not be surprised at all to see this coin grade in either MS61 or MS62.

The coin has some luster and life still to it. It hasn't been messed with. I would probably grade it AU53 but I can see why some would say 55. It doesn't have enough luster to be a 58 and too much rub for Mint State (bummer, that's where the money is for this coin). That said, I don't care, I love this particular example. Many examples of this O/S I've seen are not the same strong die state as this one.
