If anyone received the recent auction catalog from TCNC.. on page 19 is a listing for a 1947 pointed with dot.

I feel like a complete simpleton here... but where's the dot on this coin..

I didn't even know that the '47 had a "dot" variety...

Any and all info would be helpful... I want to learn more!

Yes there is "dot" variety. It is located just to the right of the 7, almost in line with the bottom of the 7. The Charlton catalogue states "The dot after 7 variety is the result of a specimen die being put in service as a working die for business strikes. The dot is a result of an accidental pit on the die."

One of the first coins that I ever bought.

All of the dollars were stacked together in a pill jar and sold as one set,...but missing the 48 ,...as they were told by their corner bank that there weren't any of that year.

If the dot dollar was from a "specimen" die, would that mean that many of the 'dot dollars' have a somewhat better finish than the other 47 BL and 47 ML's..?
