I'd like to ask,why Canada had not dollar coin before 1935?
I think, every country had it's own "big" silver bank coins-peso,frank,mark,rouble,yen,crown..
Canada had also low mintage of early coins, looks like this big country used not so much own money for big transaction as international business.

I quickly scanned the article and was surprised not to see any mention of the 1911 Canadian silver dollar. Although only 3 specimens were struck, 2 in silver, 1 in lead, it's still worth mentioning. This may not be the best article about it, but short and sweet.

Then as now the Canadian dollar was shunned as a medium of international exchange. The majority of trade was with the US and Great Britain.Eagles and sovereigns were used for payment, they were legal tender in Canada, and readily available from the banks. Our legislators saw no need for a one-dollar circulating coin, the '35 dollar was intended as a commemorative, the mint discovered there was money to be made issuing circulation coins that wouldn't really circulate, and continued the minting of silver dollars.

Because as a British commonwealth nation it had all the silver it needed from GB and USA. 1935 was when the Bank of Canada took hold of our currency. Besides, if Canada ever needed an infusion of money we have plenty of playing cards ready.
