Hi All,

Can you anyone tell by these auction pics if these coins are replated?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-14-1...:RTQ:US:1123

The seller said he got them from a friend who has had them since he was a child and that they are authentic. I have bought from this E-Bay seller before but I wanted to get your opinions.

Thanks
John

They don't appear to have that 'slick' look I usually associate with replated ones. I'd have bid on these (but won't ;)).

Interesting that the last one is copper-colored. *That* one may have been plated/colored in some way, as I would not expect to see a real 1943 copper Wheat penny in a lot auction like this. Let us know if you do win - it would be interesting to know about that last one.

The only one that I would be concerned with would be the one on the bottom right, and that just could be a lighting issue. The price so far is right, I say go for it. I would bid, but I still have 3 rolls almost as nice as these to go through and place into 2x2's.

With those it is really difficult to tell if plated or not. Some are done so good you just can't tell. And so many have been replated in the past so they now have deveoloped a natural look. It is amazing how many different types of plating has been done to the 1943 Steel Cents. I've got well over 2,000 of them. Almost an entire roll of Chomed plated ones. 3 that are Copper Plated. Many Zinc and mnay Tinned plated ones too. Some just not sure of. Possibly, but never sure, about 1,500 are natural.
Regardless, they sell for $0.25 to $1 for the Philly ones at coin shows all the time in EF to UN. The ones shown on this sale are no big thing.

Update: The Lot went for $ 10.00. I think that was over-priced.
