This is coin #4 of the five recent coins received in change at my local grocery store the past few weeks.

With the die chips and die crack on this 2013-P Nickel, I believe it must have been near the end of it's die life (both obv. & rev.), and since they say a picture is worth a thousand words, I'll let them take it from here.

Die chips and die crack on the base of the Monticello. Seem like they happen most on nickels. Then quarters and cents are close seconds.

Probably has something to do with the metal itself.
