Here is coin #5 of the recent five coins received in change at my local grocery store the past few weeks I pulled as keepers.

Thread for coins 1 to 3 here, https://goccf.com/t/160170

Coin #4 here.

This find was a first for me, a 2010-P Dime that on first glance looks to be post mint damage in the location of K9:30 to K11.

Intrigued by how uniform the markings were, a closer examination was necessary to determine if this was a genuine error or PMD.

As I viewed this, my minds eye would show that this is plausible and can indeed be a error that while I have never viewed before, I would label a "Collar Clash", where the edge of the Obverse Die had clashed with the Collar.

To see if this was even possible, I spent the next few hours of viewing both error coin magazines and books looking for some type of confirmation/photos of a Collar clashing with the Hammer Die.

I believe I found it on page #313 of "The Error Coin Encyclopedia" where it notes it is possible for the Hammer Die to come in contact with the Collar.

I have spent many years collecting all type of errors and this is a first, now is the time to see who in this forum agree with me on a Clashed Collar, and who believe it is something else.

I ask anyone believing this is PMD to also add in their comment, how they believe this coin came to be if PMD is suspected (ie: hammer/punch).

Wow. I've never even heard about this kind of error before.

Just a thought...could the same thing that caused the MD on the letters of Liberty cause extra thin rim at the base of the actual rim. The same die movement that causes MD maybe caused it?

Does that go all the way around the coin? Maybe post a pic of the whole Obverse.

It is indeed a collar clash, not a particularly valuable error but neat to find nonetheless.
Rest in Peace

Of the 3 you posted, this is my favorite. I've never seen one like this.

Nice find.

I guess clashed collar strikes are not rare, and in fact may be quite common as I just found another one, this time on a 2013 Dime.
