chrycopaul Pillar of the Community Canada 1106 Posts	Posted 06/15/2007 03:50 am I am assuming these coins are the same denomination from the same country with the one on the left being an earlier date. I am also assuming that on the holed coin, the design is a top view of the same flower on the other coin. I am willing to bet that this will be an easy one to identify for those collectors of world coins. Maybe one day I will buckle down and get a book. Sap Moderator Australia 16808 Posts	Posted 06/15/2007 04:10 am You are correct in your assumptions; they're both Japanese 50 yen. The one on the left is Showa Year 31 (1956). The holed one is Year 37 (1962). The flower is a chrysanthemum, the symbol of the royal house of Japan, although I'm not sure the swirly pattern on the later coin is supposed to represent the flower. I was thinking no more than 10 years old because it looks like it was minted yesterday. I guess it has been over here and out of circulation for the last 45 years.
