What are you seeing doubled? The coin looks like circulation may have flattened the devices. Closer images of the areas in question may show me something else?

does this help? the coin is definitely worn but there appears to be some doubling "In God...." and Liberty (although almost impossible to distinguish)

I don't see anything but a worn quarter either.

I see no spread or notching. Just flattening from circulation. But thanks for the extra image. You just never know for sure from just images sometimes.

The darkness you see is shadowing.

Example: The letters are creating the shadowing of which you think is doubling.
