Not counting a couple of small and barely discernible serrates from a large batch of dirties, this is my my first good bottlecap coin. It's so heavy! Looks very nice in hand. Wasn't until I took pictures that I noticed the aggressive 'smoothing'.

Also from the Goldberg lot and it's a keeper.

SELEUKID KINGDOM OF SYRIA, Demetrios I Soter
160-152 BC
AE26 serrate, Antioch mint
Obv: laureate head of Apollo right, bow and quiver over left shoulder
Rev: BAΣIΛEΩΣ deltaHMHTΡIOΥ; tripod
Ref: Houghton 169/SNG Spaer 1291

The flip just said "Demetrius I" so I hope I've correctly attributed the coin. Please correct me if wrong.

That must be a fantastic lot that you bought. All the coins from it are excellent.

It's certainly adding up to a good deal. I'm trying to assess values as I go-- always hard to do, I usually think my coins are worth more than they really are :)

I'll post a group shot and inventory list later today. Gotta go find some of those darn button batteries now so that I can weigh them and more accurately measure diameters.

I really do like the Seleucid bronzes. I don't have any but they are generally in much lower grade and but not very expensive. Your coin I think is excellent. I urge you to look for this ruler in silver. His tetradrachms are quite impressive.

What I'd really like is that other Demetrios-- of Baktria, with elephant head dress. You want it too. Neither of us is likely to get one any time soon

Yea I can't afford a Demetrius I of Bactria bust. I could barely afford the bronze elephant bust. Rare.

I've been keeping an eye out for one like that since I first saw yours. One of these days I'll find the right one. $$$ even in so-so condition. You probably got some fabulous deal on yours, huh?
