My daughter and I stopped by our LCS on Saturday and dug through the "bargain bin". We got a handful of coins for a few bucks, and in the mix was this 1852 large cent:

1852-Large-Cent---What-Do-I-Do-With-It-Overly-Cleaned?

It obviously had environmental damage and has been overly cleaned. What should I do with it? Is there any process to at least get it back to a browner color to make it somewhat more appealing to the eye? Do I leave it alone? Try to sell it on ebay?

Well, it's a cull not worth very much..$1-2 at best.
You could put it on a window sill on a piece of oak and forget about it.
Over time, it will get darker.

Nothing really. Leave it as it is. As vermontesium said not worth much. Just be happy that you got a good deal, I guess.

Sounds like it's time for some Dellers Darkener.

I'm not familiar with Dellers Darkener, but a web search makes it sound like it's basically a mixture of petroleum jelly and sulfur? My web search led to recommendations of putting copper or brass (usually jewelry, not coins) into a bag with a boiled egg to let its natural sulfur patina the surface. Since this particular cent is already a cull, maybe I'll give that a try for fun. If nothing else, it will be a neat science experiment with some results to share here.

nalaberong, my daughter got several world coins from another "bargain bin" (Brazil, Mexico, etc). Nothing monumental, but she was excited.

I"d just carry as a pocket piece and show it off, not many people know that once our cents were this large, and it makes for an interesting conversation starter.

stick it in the oven at 400-450 Fahrenheit for 3 or 4 minutes. It will darken.

Light 3 matches inside of a bag and insert coin. Wait 2 to 24 hours for desired darkness. Include whole hard boiled egg for extra ickyness.
