I can't find a 1978 DDR Lincoln Cent listed anywhere. When I looked at this one it just stuck out. I'm sure it is probably just Die Deterioration, but this coin looks a lot like a class 6. I know you guys have seen the cents with the sort of flattening ring slightly inside the rim. It makes the USA & ONE CENT look really thick. This coin is like that but without the flattening ring. The letters are nice and round. There are no signs of splits. Also, appearance of MD along the tops of some of the letters is just light glare from the LED's. Tell me if you think it is possible or just, what I call, Die Deterioration thickening. I just don't want to throw a possible discovery into the junk copper bin.

I know that thick feeling as well, I have a post about the 1962 bag I am going through and though some are about 150% above average size date-wise, I don't see a lot, if any doubling. Yeah some do, but that's like 3 out of 175 candidates so far. It just may not be a DDO, it simply could be a well cleaned out die, or coop calls the Die Deterioration will simply allow for more area for the metal to cause the devices to become fatter.

I don't see the characteristic "notch" associated with DDO's.
I have to go with some sort of Machine Doubling.

On UNITED I see Die Deterioration on the tops of some devices.
(Wondered at first if it was Machine Doubling, but after looking at BU examples I have on hand it is die wear.)

Different years have different thickness of devices. To tell if it looks normal or not, you can compare it with other examples from the same year. If you don't see a spread on the devices, it may not be a doubled die. On class 6 doubled dies only certain areas are affected because the hub was warped.

Here is an example of spread you can find on reverse devices:

The notching is also noticed.
