I remember this one time I had a 1964 quarter when I was younger and didn't realize it was silver. I had a bunch of 1960s quarters and that was the only silver one. I decide to sell them to my brother because I thought they weren't worth much. He only bought the 1964 because it was the oldest, not because it was silver. We were kids, we didn't know. A little while later I realized that it was silver, and I wanted it back. The 1964 was gone, he spent it! Now I know how scarce silver quarters are, they're almost impossible to find today. Anyway, that's my story. Anything like that happen yo you?

I saw a Westpoint dime, with the W mint mark, and decided all were like this and threw it into circulation.

I remember being about 4 (1965) my dad give me a nickel to buy from the ice cream-man. While waiting for the dud to drive up the block, I was noticing how nice this coin with an Indian and a buffalo on it. Little did I know I would want that coin back one day.
I also remember spending pre-1970 Kennedy's too.

I used to manage at a movie theater and one night while counting deposits, I came across a 1934 $100 bill. Being 18, there was no way I could swap it out so I sadly had to deposit it.

I spent 10 silver jfk halves(I think maybe one or 2 might of been a 1964 but most were 40% ers.)this was in the 1998-1999 range though so I don't really regret it or beat myself up over it.

In Sydney (Oz) a very long time ago, I had a VF25 '23S SLQ, I bought it from a dealer's junk box for $1. Neither the dealer nor I knew what was really about to change hands. I sold it about 10 years later at public auction for only $50, because I needed the money. Now, I really regret having to sell that coin. Didn't get anywhere near enough money for it.
One that didn't get away: I was in Manchester U.K. 1970, and bought a '49 gold Dollar at a coin show, for GBP 1.50 (=$3). After returning to Australia, I gave it to my sister. She did, and still has, a large collection of Oz. coins. Years later the gold dollar was 'surplus to her requirements', so she gave it back to me. I still have it. It is a reminder of the two years that I lived in Manchester.
Occasionally I show the gold dollar to any American friend who may know little about coins, to remind them of some of their numismatic heritage.

Back in the early 90's when I was a kid I remember helping my older sister roll some quarters. We found a couple that felt and sounded different when struck against other coins. We sort of just wrote it off as an oddity we couldn't answer and rolled them up. Must have been some silver.

I raided my sister's coin collection and broke out whatever small change that was in 2X2's and spent them in gumball machines. The one I remember is a roos dime, I have no idea if it was special or not, I just remember opening the 2X2.

I heard of somebody that cashed in a whole bunch of silver dollars that they were saving. I mean like $50 face or more.

If it makes you feel better, odds are a collector stumbled on those. I once picked up $90 face in Walking Lib and Franklin halves from the bank... for face value. Score of a lifetime.

Bought my first car with 300 1964 Kennedy's. Hey, pretty stupid, but I did have a 57 Chevy!

Do you still have the '57 Chevy? Classic car prices at auction are going bananas in Oz just now!
