This is fresh out of a sealed tube of a lot of 200 I bought earlier in 2013 needed to turn some over for cash and came across this coin.
I'm not into error coins so I don't know exactly what kind of doubling or what the pinhole with oily stain around it is located on rev. near LL
Both sides show doubling of letters and the date is pretty clear with a blob on the "1" and a metal blob inside "0" same thin on one of the R's on the reverse but it may not be detectable by pics. Is this rare? worthless beyond bullion?
I did a search on doubled 2013 eagles and came up with nothing. Actually some were reported on some proofs I think.

Any help would be great!

JJ

I don't think there is a set price. I did a search on double die eagles on ebay, and there's some guys who have them trying to ask for the moon, but I don't know what a realistic price is for them.

Thanks guys.

Seriously I take great photos..no joke. ebay coin sellers come to my place if they want good pics I sell quite a bit on ebay. Somewhere in resizing them I can never get a decent photo on any site but the IKE Group site where I don't have to try to cut it down....

I figured out what kind of mint error the pinhole and grease stain is it's way more obvious in real life . I have turned a lot of Eagles over this year and they all are have been pretty uniform. I can't find one error listing for a 2013 anywhere. Interesting coin. I guess just having an error coin for a 2013 Eagle could be interesting.

Really, thanks again I do not post much but get a ton of info from reading these forums and a number of other sites.

The image size is too small. I make my images in the 800-1000 pixel range. Here is one of your I enlarged a bit to 600:

Not counting the border which made it 700 X 545.

But a closer image of what you are wanting to show as doubling, would help a lot.

I do not see a pinhole but the stain is a milk spot, caused by residual planchet rinse. Milk spots are a known problem for SAEs and they cannot be removed without also damaging the coin.

Thanks guys might do that picture DVD!

Here is a blow up the hole it is surrounded by oily looking grease but it is not on the surface. Milk spots ugg I have enough of them on mild wild- lifes. This looks like a tiny bite mark from a mosquito. tiny hole, and discoloration around it. It is between the LL. I will try to blow up the date and the areas that are raised. There is a number raised blobs on and inside the letters and numbers. Let me know what you think.

Here is the date up close. 4 raised circle/oval areas just on the date. I only find this interesting because I just got through reading the Ike group book and how dies work.

And this was a fresh raw coin right out of a tube from the mint and the best way to describe this batch of 200 eagles is they are all very deeply struck I believe I got them in January and this one was right in the middle of one of the tubes of otherwise flawless eagles.

These pimple type marks are in other areas on the coin too mostly in the lettering doubling may be more apparent in this photo too.

If it is indented/incuse it maybe damage or a struck through something. Too minor to increase value. More of a distraction. If it is raised it might be a die dent. Also no biggie.

The 1 & 3 looks like Machine Doubling.

I'll just hang on to it. I have never seen this on new eagle its raised but you would know better than me if it is anything worthwhile. I have seen a lot of this on older stuff and after talking with twohawks I have been making my eyes bleed looking at Morgans for VAMS in the middle of the night :). Figure I would give the guy a plug he knows his biz. It's the only reason I catch this little stuff. I will make a donation to the site and get that dvd I'll send you a message.

Thanks for the response,
JJ

The site thanks you for it. I've received some good reviews on it. I'm up to version 6. Still adding new stuff for version 7 as I find it.
